West London Specialist Support Services

WLSSS is a supported living and outreach service that is primarily aimed at individuals affected by Autistic Spectrum Conditions, Learning Difficulties, Acquired Brain Injuries and Physical Support Needs.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER?
In response to people’s needs we can:
• Provide practical help, support and advice in accessing
accommodation
• Facilitate the needs of people ‘moving on’ within the service
(from residential care to supported living or between
properties)

People who are supported by WLSSS are encouraged and
empowered to take an active part in their community and to
access mainstream leisure pursuits and interests.

Individual support plans can include access to day centres,
colleges, education classes or supported employment should
the person wish to participate as part of their person-centred
plan.

Alongside our Support Living Services, Autism Consultants
operate a registered residential home and college for adults
affected by an Autistic Spectrum Condition.

We recognise people as individuals and we will work with them
to realise their individuality and enable them to take as much
control of their own lives, environment and support as possible.

  VALUES AND PRINCIPLES
We aim to work with people, their families and professionals
within a framework of anti-discriminatory practice and in such
a way as to promote each persons individual value.
We are committed to:
• Actively promoting each persons participation in an ordinary
lifestyle
• Encouraging and supporting people to access community
facilities
• Having positive expectations by highlighting each persons
achievements and strengths without losing sight of their
individual needs
At West London Specialist Support Services we aim to exceed
any minimum standards set out by legislation whilst giving an
efficient delivery of Service User focused support services. A
service that is assessed, reviewed, monitored and measured
regularly being agreed and formulated in conjunction with the
Service User or their representative.

Case study about Karl as told in his own words

“I moved to Hounslow in February 2009 after living a way for a
few years I didn’t like where I was living before and I was
excited about moving in to my new house but also a little
nervous. My support workers helped me settle into my house
and make it feel like home, they showed me how to set up
direct debits to make sure my bills get paid.

“I like to do things for myself but sometimes I wasn’t sure how.
I hadn’t done things like hoovering and washingmy clothes for
a long time and the support workers helped me to learn how
to do these things again. And other things such as what buses
to catch so I can go shopping or to the pub. I’m now learning
how to cook so I can eat my dinner when I want. Where I lived
before I used to have to have my dinner at the same time
every day but now I can have it whenever I want.

“I used to have support every day but now don’t. My support workers helped me find work at a Charity shop that I go to on Thursday’s I really look forward to going to work and I normally meet my friends for a cup of tea afterwards.

“At the weekends I like to go to the cinema and go to different places Like the Museums and trips to Brighton if it’s sunny.

“I think my support workers have helpedme to help myself and I am very proud of things I have done over the past year”.
